CFA Joined the Physical Activity Alliance

In 2022, the CFA joined the Advisory Board of the Physical Activity Alliance (PAA). The Physical Activity Alliance is the nation’s largest and most inclusive community of physical activity advocates, researchers, academics, and practitioners. The PAA has several key initiatives including developing and implementing a system of measurement that will enable exercise to be prescribed and measured in the healthcare system. CA Fitness Industry Takes a Leadership Role in Equity in Pay

Educating our Elected Officials on the Importance of Physical Activity and the Fitness Industry

In 2022 the CFA Team met with California state legislators to advocate and educate on the essential role of physical activity and the fitness industry. As a result several Assemblymembers have agreed to author/sponsor legislation that will increase access to physical activity and fitness centers for many Californians.

    

San Francisco Gyms Get Creative to Survive Pandemic

Before The City went into lockdown in March 2020, Fitness SF had 38,000 members across its Marin, Oakland and San Francisco locations. Local Fitness Centers Face Permanent Shutdown with Looming Mask Mandates

Los Angeles County Health officials said LA County might bring back public indoor mask mandates as soon as the end of July. And, unlike restaurants and other businesses, fitness centers don’t have a safety net. There is no federal funding and PPP loans are to keep the doors open–something they haven’t been able to do. Click here to read the full article on Westside Current. 

New Governor’s Advisory Council on Physical Fitness and Mental Well-Being Announced

The California Fitness Industry is part of this new council, represented by CFA President, Francesca Schuler. The Advisory Council is led by First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who was a Division 1 athlete at Stanford University and a member of the women’s junior national soccer team, and Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Lott. Click here to read the full article.
